When I originally started thinking of what to write about I was going to go a whole different path. But on Monday, my husband and I finally watched the interview everyone has been talking about, you know, the Bruce Jenner interview. It was not necessarily the interview that made me think, “We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are,” it was the comments about the interview and the video clips of hate weaved in the interview.  If you have no idea what I am talking about: Bruce Jenner has finally spoke his truth, he is transgender. That does not mean he is gay. He said he is not gay. Bruce also said he has been dealing with not feeling comfortable in his own body since he was young. He would secretly put on his sister’s dresses and battle with hiding his secret for years. He told all three of his wives about his secret. Before he married Kris (Kardashian Momanger) he was taking hormones for five years! He was considering a transition back then.

Bruce Jenner| If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Where am I going with this?

While watching the interview 20/20 shared a few clips of hate crimes against transgender people, and it broke my heart. Along with the hate crimes; there were videos of transgender teens who committed suicide, because they were bullied or their families did not accept them. Although, I understand that the unknown sometimes is confusing, it does not mean it is wrong or right, it just is. Nobody ever deserves to be beaten, killed, or bullied over it.

An Instagram friend posted a picture of Bruce Jenner with the word BRAVE across it. I am quite sure when she posted that image she did not expect to get people hating on her for doing so, or the vicious words towards Bruce Jenner to pop up on her IG, but that is exactly what happened. Yes, we are all entitled to our own opinions, but being vile… there really is no room for that. (We have enough of that going on.)

Who are we?

When we see people and view them as nasty for being transgender, gay, or another race, what does that say about us? Who is the nasty one when all we can do is judge and see ugliness. People are people no matter their color, gender, or preference. To attack someone for how they feel inside or how they look, raises the question: “How do you feel inside?” If a person is living his or her truth, why does it matter to us. Shouldn’t he or she be happy? Do we not want everyone to be happy? If you do not have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all….

Show us yours

Truth! There is no more room for hate in the world. Wasn’t it just a few weeks ago that our quote was “If you judge others, you don’t have time to love them.”? I understand transgender can be confusing to grasp, Bruce Jenner himself said he was confused at how to answer some of the questions. The world is not black and white; this is not black and white either. Thank you for sharing this. I agree with your sentiment. People don’t have to agree, they don’t have to understand, but they don’t have the right to be a horrible human being.

THANK YOU! YES! There really is no more room for hate on this planet, find something else to do, haters!!
I thought of inserting the Mother Teresa quote. It just seriously baffles me that people do not see how their or the things they say reflect who they are.

I wish people would take the time to understand differences instead of making assumptions or using hate to mask their fear. I have not yet watched the interview, but I want to. I commend anyone who publicly shares something about themselves that is “different”. I hope that was Bruce Jenner coming out about being transgender it will start a productive dialogue for helping more people understand and accept people who are transgender.

YES, to EVERY SINGLE WORD!! People fear their “unknown”, but do they seek to educate themselves before judging… not always. We could only hope that there would be productive dialogue, but after some of the comments I’ve read various places… {{heavy sigh}} I’m just not sure. Thanks for sharing your comment, I’m so happy we’re friends!! XOXO

Gorgeous. It’s very strange to me that people hate on what OTHER people do. I mean.. how happy are they inside? Not very.
One of my bridesmaids brought her boyfriend to my wedding with her. A few years later her now ex-boyfriend wrote to me to tell me she was now a she. Well not NOW a she – had always been but was now public with it. I wrote back congratulations and wishes for happiness. I mean, she shared my wedding day with me so I was touched we could talk about it.

That’s awesome that she felt comfortable to tell you about her transition. I love that you have such an accepting heart, I’m thankful that I can call you friend.
I know you’re raising two open-minded children too… thank you!

I’m sadly not surprised people hated on him, and not because he’s associated with the Kardashians 🙂 It breaks my heart when people hate on others for who they are, with little understanding of their lives, and when other people’s lives don’t even affect theirs. I do think he’s brave for being true to himself and voicing his secret even though it’s an unpopular one.

Sometimes people like to voice their opinions before they do the research. Why? Ugh… it angers me that people speak so harshly in regard to another person’s life. It is just down right hateful. I wish they could look into their own heart.
Thank you, Nina, for being such an understanding and sweet soul!

YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so sorry that your friend received so much HATE for stating that Bruce is Brave. I so agree that she is Brave, and I am rooting for her all the way. I so agree with you, that living ones truth is something to celebrate. Not Hate.

She is not hurting anyone, and so why hate on it. Go fix yourself and figure out why you have to hate, when someone is happy…..

Thank you for this beautiful truth.

Thanks, Ray! It’s just horribly disgusting that people have such hatred in their hearts. I do not understand, how someone else’s life affects yours because he or she loves a certain way or feels like someone else inside. Bruce’s decision to become “her” is his/her decision to make not anyone else’s.
      It’s 2015!
      Sending you love!

Beautiful post. I truly believe in order for us to be happy, love others, and accept others, we have to love and accept ourselves first. If we all accepted each other imagine how amazing the world would be. Enough with judgement and hate. It always astounds me that there are people out there who preach about religion and God, yet are the first to show hate.

Amen!!! If you’re preaching love & faith: why not show some love & have faith that people are people no matter how they love or their gender.
      Aren’t we created equal?
I could write a whole new post on this discussion, but I’m sure it would raise eyebrows, and perhaps a side of hate.
Thanks for your comment & for being kindhearted!
      XOXO

It is such a powerful quote. I find it very fitting for the situation unraveling in Baltimore this past week.
