{Wordless Wednesday} Faith in Humanity

Posted on

This weekend my family and I went to my husband’s company picnic, it was nice.  Okay, I hate to complain but DAMN it was HOT! South Carolina in August is no joke 100% humidity with a temperature in devilish degrees.  However, we forgot all about the heat once we coaxed my husband into volunteering for the dunk tank.  The 11:00-11:15 a.m dunk tank slot was open, and all the kids were waiting anxiously to dunk an adult; none of the adults were raising their hand in the air.  My husband went ahead and volunteered for a group of kids to line-up and dunk him countlessly for 15 minutes.  It was AWESOME!  My kids of course were the most eager to dunk my hubby.

We left the picnic after my husband’s dunkin’ to all go home and freshen up, because ewe dunk tank water, 100% humidity, and devilish degrees.  We decided to take the kids for a surprise ice cream stop before we headed to an early dinner.  We took a little stroll down King Street, forgetting apparently that it was devilishly hot outside, and stopped off at Jenis.

I was the official sampler because, I don’t eat dairy, but I do sample 🙂

If you ever get the opportunity to visit Jenis may I suggest… dark coffee, the buckeye, and bramleberry. YUM!

All of this was well and good.  I absolutely enjoyed my time with my family, however it was something else that made my day even brighter. My faith in humanity was restored, even if it was just for a weekend, I was on a kindness high.

People Matter

There is a certain look here in Charleston, it’s boat shoes, button ups, and salmon shorts.  It’s clean cut, Sunday casual, and traditional. Some people may think stuffy or presumptuous but remember Charleston is known as ‘the’ friendliest city in America. I have to admit there are times I forget that the title is held here in the area, but Saturday I reminded.

A man dressed in what looked like his favorite Sperry topsiders, khaki shorts, and a long sleeve button up, was walking down the street holding a pizza box while eating a slice of pizza.  About 2 to 4 feet away there was a gentleman who looked a bit down on his luck.  That man was wearing a t-shirt and black jeans; he wasn’t toting a hot box of pizza, instead he was hoisting up his weathered bike. He asked or said something to the man with the pizza box/pizza in hand.  The man didn’t look annoyed, he still looked content eating his pizza as he peeked into his box and grabbed a slice for the man, while handing it off.

It was a small gesture, sure.  However, to me it was h u g e.  My eyes teared up.  He didn’t have to share, if he wanted to, he could’ve walked away, but instead without the slightest bit of hesitation he shared.  He didn’t even know my family and I saw this kind act.  He just did it.

So, when I saw the building pictured above on King Street, it was of course the best sign.  People Matter.

Wow! That is so amazing. Those small acts, the ones that seek no recongition are the most awesome to me.

I still need to visit Charleston – you guys get around so much! I envy…LOL I haven’t explored At All… on my To Do List though 😀

I agree. That to me shows the true character of a person. That man has a good heart. See his kindness, was chicken soup to my soul!

Yes, you need to see Charleston 🙂 I want to make sure we do not miss anything while we’re here… no regrets. I didn’t see everything in Chicago while I was there, and I regret it 🙁
I’m not sure how long we’ll be here, but I don’t think nearly as long as we were in Chicagoland.

      XOXO

How sweet. I love witnessing moments like that, especially when the person doesn’t know someone is watching.

There is a lot of homelessness in the Honolulu/Waikiki area, and my tender Amaya always makes ziplock bags full of snacks and keeps them in her satchel when we go into town. 🙂

I used to be hesitant letting her come so close to people who may (or may not) be druggies or alcoholics, but I decided it’d be worse to quell her innate desire to give and help those in need.

I hope she always has the heart that she does!

I LOVE THAT LITTLE RAE OF SUNSHINE!! I’m glad you are letting Amaya spread kindness, and as long as you are there, I think it’s all good. I think she’ll always have a sweet giving heart, she has a sweet loving family.
Who knows, maybe one day, she’ll share her and her friend’s spicy tacos with a homeless man under a bridge in Austin TX 😉 #GoodTimes #GoodOlDays
      Love Ya!

You guys make me want to visit Charleston. If you only knew the stories I’ve had with people that we didn’t know being kind to us and things I’ve seen and read about like this before! This reminds me of that! People can be very very nice. I love that about humanity actually. 🙂

Well, then, visit Charleston! 🙂 Seriously, though I hope you get to visit Charleston one day, it is a beautiful city.
I think it is easy to forget there ‘is’ kindness around us. I’m thankful to those that share their heart. You deserve all the kindness you receive.

That made me tear up too! I love seeing things like that, it’s nice to be reminded that people are good and kind as a whole. And you are gorgeous!! Can you tell me what lipstick/gloss you’re wearing?! I love that color!!

Good tears 🙂 I hope. People can be nice, I wish the news would show a good act of the day, that may help after seeing all the horribleness out there.

Aww shucks, you’re too nice :::blushes:::
My lips… don’t laugh, but I have a weird regime. I use Burt’s Bees Raisin lip shimmer and depending how dark I want it I may only apply to my bottom lip or both, then add CO Bigelow Mentha Shimmer Tint in Pearl Mint… lol
      I know it’s complicated…

Looks like it was a fun weekend! And now I need to visit Charleston one day, it looks so beautiful. That was such a sweet thing to see. I know sometimes I can forget how much people matter and not to take what I have for granted. People can be so kind, sometimes you think it’s a rarity but it shouldn’t be!

Oh, please do!-Charleston is beautiful. I love taking pictures of all the beautiful buildings and the cobblestone… it’s a photographer’s dream (and wannabes like me). 😉

I think we all can get swept away in our own everyday, and forget that we’re all going through the same struggle. I try to remind myself often, I smile, I ask a stranger “how their day is going,” and help where I can… even if it’s just holding a door. You dear, are a sweetheart, you are kind to people often with your sweet encouraging comments, don’t forget that!

That is a great story! I’ve pretty much given up on mankind, but your story gives me hope. I hope for more stories like this in the news instead of the sad, awful stories we hear everyday. I hope you have a beautiful weekend. xoxo

Great Minds! I just replied to someone else’s comment saying there should be a kindness act of the day segment. I would watch the news for that! I think it’s nice to be reminded there is good in the world.
Do you ever watch What Would You Do? I love that show, well, I hate when I see the assholes of the world on there, but the do-gooders I love them. I love when I see people unkowningly being filmed sharing kindness. <3

Sometimes, as a society we let the negativity win. I want to show my kids that isn't the case. I'm floored at how much papers we have received these past two weeks with all the negative reinforcement polices versus the positive. I want the kids to know good things, come to good people, or at least, I'd like to hope so….
      XOXO

Beautiful story! I think it is the small, considerate gestures that really make a difference. What a wonderful thing to witness!

It’s the little things, right? The biggest things can come from the smalls gestures. I wholeheartedly believe that. If we could all just do one small kind thing a day, the world could be happier. I know I may seem like such a dreamer, but I truly think positive energy is contagious, it’s worth spreading 🙂

Awesome! I live for stories like these because my faith in humankind does get shaken sometimes. Looks like a nice trip.

My faith in humankind gets shaken sometimes, too…
I’m thankful for moments like these, I want to sprinkle them out into the world and make it rain kindness.
      Thanks for stopping in 🙂

What a beautiful story! Thanks for sharing.
I’m laughing about the dunk tank. I’ve never seen one/tried one. I bet it feels cool to get dunked, though.
And that ice cream – holy cow.

      Thanks, Tamara.
The dunk tank WAS AWESOME! (Easy for me to say, right?) I’ve never seen one in real life 😀
My poor honey, this wasn’t as nice as the ones I’ve seen on TV.
