NaBloPoMo Prompt: What knowledge do you have that others don’t?  Write a “how to” post about anything you’ve got skill for, small or large.

I’m happy this is our prompt today, because I’ve been meaning to share this for sometime.

Last weekend, I was chatting with the SITSGirls community via Twitter, and the question was asked: what is one of your favorite fall recipes?  I chimed in, “crock pot applesauce.”  Then, I was asked for a link…. doh! I didn’t have a link, I had been wanting to share this recipe for a while; it is SUPER easy, and delicious,  but never got around to it, however today is a new day.  The kids couldn’t be happier that today, is the day, and you’ll see why 😉

*Your house is going to smell A.MAZE.ING!

Crockpot Cinnamon Applesauce

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 10-12 Medium or Large apples
  • 2 tbs cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp allspice
  • 1/2 cup of sugar ( you can decrease or add to fit your own diet)
  • 1/2 cup of water

How To Make Crockpot Cinnamon Applesauce

I purchased a mega bag of “organic” apples, or so they were marked, because come on those are some big a** apples, at Costco. When I make this applesauce I like to make a lot, I have three kids, and the day I make it, when it’s nice and warm, they all gobble it up.

Peeled, Cored, Chopped and ready to hit the crock pot. |Crockpot applesauce|Cinnamon Applesauce|Mrs.AOK, A Work In Progress

Peel, core, and chop apples.  You do not need to get rid of the skins, because for the most part the skins will cook down, but my kids, for some reason feel that peels-on tastes different.  Whatever.  I don’t get fancy with my peeling and chopping. If I do not get all the peel off  no biggie, and I’m going to smash the apples anyway, so need to measure chunkage.

Once you have your apples all peeled (or not), cored, and chopped, drop them in your slow cooker, and top them with your spices. Add your water, give a quick stir and pop the lid on. I cooked my applesauce on high for 3-4 hours.

Apple smash

You may need to mash your apples, of course, this depends on how you like your sauce.  I let my boy get all HULK SMASH on the apples

Applesauce with ice cream?? Well yes.
I do love the smell of the house when someone is making ANYTHING with apples. I think of applesauce as a good food for everyone, but for some reason, we only made it as baby food for Scarlet. I still remember the house smells. Yum.

The slurps and nearly gleaming mini coffee cups after the kids ate theirs, I think is a telltale sign it is SUPER delish 😉 Those lucky kiddos.
