Dollar Tree Pumpkin Redo

Posted on

Hello Friends, HAPPY FRIDAY!! This Friday, I wanted to share with you an oldie but goodie, please enjoy. XOXO  (Please excuse, the picture quality, these were my earlier days 🙂 )

Dollar Tree Pumpkin Redo
The other day ago I went to the Dollar Tree for spider webs, while there, I saw these poor little sad orange pumpkins screaming for attention.  I grabbed one, and thought, “Hmm… glitter?”  BUT then…..
LIGHT BULB!
“ No, NOT glitter! I have spray paint at home, and these thumbtacks {300 in a pack} on aisle 2 will make a perfect studded effect.” <<BOOM!
{Yes, that’s how my mind works…}
$1 Pumpkin BEFORE
This thumbtack pumpkin was super easy to make, and it only cost me $2!! My husband came home and said he loved the pumpkin. He then proceeded to ask me, “Where did you get it?”{what a sweetheart.. right}.
My girls warmed my heart too>>>  They both said the pumpkin looked like it came from Home Goods!!!  They proceeded to tell me they thought my pumpkin looked like it would cost a lot of mula if you got it from Home Goods or Target 🙂  Keepers Right? LOVE THOSE KIDS!

Thumb Tack Pumpkin ReDo
I’m obsessed I want to make more, I wish I had picked up extra $1 pumpkins.  I want to cover a whole pumpkin in thumbtacks, or add an initial, or try another color.

They are seriously easy to make.
Here’s what you will need:
  • Spray Paint ( I have a collection in my garage, so that was free)
  • Foam Pumpkin
  • Thumbtacks  Spray painted pumpkin

I spray painted my pumpkin, and waited for the pumpkin to dry, I did dishes or something not as fun, boo!

Tacking up pumpkin

Once the pumpkin was dry, it was time to get tacking. That’s it, nothing more or nothing less.

What are waiting for, go get tacking!

Tacked Up $2 DIY

This would also be a great craft to do with older kids, I think they would enjoy choosing their own colors.  Our pumpkin stays out throughout Thanksgiving; gray just kind of goes with EVERYTHING 😉
I’d love to know if you try this DIY.
XO

Really cute and easy. I should definitely head over to the dollar store to see what items I can re-do. I love this idea!

I went to the Dollar Tree by my house and believe it or not but they don’t have much Halloween stuff left because they’re making room for the Christmas decorations! I have my daughter looking for pumpkins at her Dollar Tree too :).

I had a great weekend and hope you did too! Thanks for inviting me to the Monday Mommy Blog hop!

Haha so strange you just commented on my blog, but I already had this post open in another tab ready to comment from Sits! 😀
I love this! If I carve a real pumpkin and set it out, it attracts small colonies of fruit flies and spoils very quickly. The idea of painting and pinning a foam pumpkin appeals to me, hopefully I can find something similar.

      Ha Ha, instant blogging connection!
I hope you find some foam pumpkins to craft, I’d love to see what you come up with if you do 🙂 I’m thinking of glittering a few, or white spray paint & Sharpies 😉

So cute! Why have I never thought of getting foam pumpkins before?? I love the look of the thumbtacks. We actually carved a real pumpkin this week and I hate to sound like a downer but it was a pain! I tried to do a Mickey design for my daughter and that was disastrous! She lost interest in about 5 minutes because I wouldn’t let her hold the carving tool. Oh well! Need to get the foam pumpkins!

Awww… it takes a couple of tries, I think. I always have the kiddos do pumpkin-guts-duty and seed sifting, but now that they are older I let them use the little craving tool with teeth. Foam pumpkins are MUCH easier and less messy 🙂 Well, if you use glitter it can get a little messy, but glitter pumpkins… I mean hello, who doesn’t love glitter pumpkins 😉

LOVE this! It totally looks like something from Home Goods. I’m going to have to get to my dollar store and get some supplies and make some cute pumpkins ASAP 🙂

What a great idea, Dean! The best part is that you used thumbtacks, which can also work with real pumpkins if one cannot find foam ones.

You are the crafting queen! <3

Love! Cute, simple and quick to make. I was just at the Dollar Tree this past Wednesday looking at those. If we didn’t have three real pumpkins and two fake ones, I surely would have stocked up. Come to think of it, I might just go back and grab a couple to use for next year.

They make a great Thanksgiving centerpieces 😉 I think I remember correctly, you’re family has a big Thanksgiving… right?
If you do end up making any, I’d love to see.

That’s a great idea! I HATE pumpkin guts, so I am always looking for a pumpkin substitute. I did one last year with thumbtacks, ribbon, and some hardware I fished out of the garage. It was a very unique look and I loved it. #SITSSharefest

Totally cool idea! And sometimes even at Target, those previously decorated pumpkins are PRICEY. I love the idea of the thumbtacks.

      Thanks, Tamara 🙂
You’re right they can get pricey! 300 thumbtacks for $1 and minimal imagination, only cost me two bucks and 30 minutes 😉 I like that waaaay better.

I hate pumpkin guts, so I am always looking for great ideas for non-carved pumpkins. I did a thumbtack one a few years ago and I also did one with a bunch of hardware I dug out of the garage – that was my favorite. Last year, it was silver spray paint with ribbons. This year, who knows? #SITSSharefest
