10 End Of Summer Activities

Posted on

I know summer is winding down, and here at the AOK household we’re trying to hold on tight to what is left!  We have a few plans but nothing huge, just hanging out and enjoying us time 🙂  Today, I wanted to share a few activities you may want to try with your babies these last few days of summer break.

10 Fun End Of Summer Activities

1. Make Crayons: The kids and I love to make crayons, plus it gives purpose to all those old broken neglected crayons.  We have special muffin tins for our crayon-making, I usually get them at the Dollar Tree. (Once you use the tins for crayons, they become crayon tins)

DIY Crayons

Have your kiddos unwrap, break, and separate crayons {this is a good time to preheat the oven to 250*}. Make sure your crayons are broken into small pieces, you may want to go in and break the crayons more. In a muffin tin have your little artists add their broken crayons and if they are anything like my girls, you MUST add glitter. Put your muffin tin in the oven for about 10 minutes at 250* Once your crayons are melted, carefully take crayons out of the oven and either let them sit and harden, or stick the tin in the freezer to speed things up. Once your crayons are ready, pop those babies out and go color outside 🙂

2. Treasure Map: This is a fun thing my husband and I like to do with our kids.  We make a map of either our house or backyard and hide a goodie or two for the kids to find, using their map.

3. Do a good deed: Believe it or not kids love to do good deeds.  Spreading kindness is contagious and you WANT your kiddos to catch that 🙂  Have your kids help you make a dish for the local firehouse or a family friend.  This week we’re spreading kindness by handing out kindness cards that Stephanie from Captured in the Lens shared with me.  She is one the sweetest!!!

My babies enjoyed doing this….

4. Make Play dough: If you follow this blog regularly, you know we love play dough at mi casa.  We’ve made play dough here and play dough there. How about a play dough week and then rating the play doughs?

5. Water ballon Toss…. do I need to explain how awesome a water ballon toss is? Everything here is for a championship….

6. Scrapbook the Summer: We like to pull together pictures from our summer and make a mini scrapbook. Trust me, this activity also reminds the kids they did have fun after all.

Scrapbook

7. Library: Check out your local library for fun end-of-summer activities… that’s where we’ll be today 🙂

8. Spa Day: Create a fun at home spa day, make your own sugar scrub, grab your favorite lotion, and perfect nail polish paints for those piggies. Cupcakes are good too 🙂

9. Summertime Dessert for Dinner: I know this one may sound crazy, but my parents did this when we were younger.  We would have a little something but our main course was a big banana split!  We were able to make our own banana split and gobble it down for dinner. Good times…

10. Just have fun… don’t forget to have FUN! Scheduling is for back-to-school… stay in your jammies watch the Price Is Right and play Uno while you eat breakfast.

These sound like lots of fun. I know the activities will be even more frequent as my kids get older. I love seeing what moms with older children are doing with their kiddos. Make crayons? Sounds so fun. JR is just starting to cowor (color) more. 🙂

Aww cowor… cute! You’re going to love doing these types of activities 🙂 Actually, my son made his first set of crayons when he was around two, maybe approaching three. I was able to also make it a learning activity with him, sorting & separating colors to create new crayons. Plus, breaking crayons in a baggie and banging them was a good time for him 🙂

This is a great list of ideas. I can’t believe that we only have about three more weeks until school starts. I am getting kinda sad, it has gone by way to fast.

I LOVE the homemade crayons. Scarlet got some for her birthday and I thought they were awesome. I had never thought of it before.
She’s still a little afraid of manicures.. but hoping for it at some point.
And I love the popcorn good deed! It’s one of my favorite foods. Gotta share the love.

My babies love making the crayons for gifts. We’ve made snowmen & mittens crayons for Christmas gifts in the past.
My youngest daughter all of a sudden has become a nail polish naysayer!!

Thanks, Susen. I love seeing how these little acts of kinds make the kids excited. I think we’ll have to do the Redbox & popcorn this weekend or today… it was SO much fun for the kiddos 🙂 and me too.

Making crayons is something my kids still enjoy doing. Getting them to unwrap the crayons and break them up keeps them preoccupied for a good 20-30 minutes. 🙂 The crayons make good handmade gifts too.
      Thanks for stopping by!

These are some great ideas. We’ve been hitting up our new library and love it so far. I think a spa day is just what we need before we start our year of homeschooling next week.
