A Work In Progress, That's What She Said

On Being a Woman

On being a woman…

My thoughts on being a woman have changed since I was younger, but stayed the same in some respect.  I was once enchanted with the beauty of women from a more shallow perspective, I looked up to beautiful women with beautiful things and beautiful covers in magazines.

Then I got a little older and loved women for more than their beauty and their things, but their thoughts and their actions.

As I grew older and had my own little women my love for being a woman increased. I loved our beauty, our wisdom, our kindness, our will, our ability to shatter glass ceilings! I read books, I learned more, I printed out a Rosie the Riveter sign and taped it to my girls’ door. Because…. WE CAN DO IT! I would never want my girls to feel they cannot do anything solely on the basis of being a girl. That’s ludicrous!

Sometimes, being a woman is hard. We’re expected to be traditional or modern, but I love being traditional and modern. I have my strong willed thoughts, my hopes for women and their place in society as equals, and I have dreams of bigger things for myself all while happily staying home and caring for my children (while making a small amount of mula here at home. [I’d like to make a bigger amount… ehem!]).

Women can be catty. There I said it, we can. But dear ladies… we can be so much more if we didn’t turn on each other. If we didn’t belittle each other’s choices or circumstance. Why do we do that?

If you judge people, you have no time to love them.| On being a woman.

(You be the Judge #TWSS)

I cannot sit here and say I’ve never judged another woman because that would be a big fat lie. I have. And that’s not cool. I CAN tell you that I try more now as grown woman -who is proud to be a woman- to empower, encourage, and support other women. Chances are you’ve been inspired in life by another woman. My challenge to you is to let her know how she has inspired you!

Strong women build each other up! |Thank You Notes

Happy International Women’s Day! Keep pushing, believing, dreaming, reaching, doing, researching, writing, creating, loving, caring and giving– you inspire!

Happy belated International Women’s Day! I want to send Eve the same messages you are sending your daughters. I try to be aware of what adjectives I used to describe her. I still call her cute and beautiful, but also I make sure I tell her she’s strong, brave, smart, and CREATIVE 🙂

Thank you, Bev. Annnnd a Happy (belated) International Women’s Day to you! Aww shucks, thanks. I *try* to watch my words too, but I do use beautiful, cute, precious, & adorable… a lot. However, I make sure to emphasis on their other traits as you noted, and there’s always the word LOVE. 🙂

Love, love, love this! My motto is “I’m a woman, hear me roar!” My father-in-law always teases me about it, but it’s served me well so far. 😉 I, too, want to give that message to my daughter (and teach her that she can be more than “catty”). Thank you for sharing!

Hi! I love this post! I had to tweet it. The quotes are wonderful and inspiring. I love being a woman and I love the things that make us different from men. However, you’re absolutely right about the cattiness. Some women enjoy putting other women down and badmouthing them. That’s so ridiculous! Don’t they know that when they put other women down they’re essentially putting themselves down too. There’s nothing more beautiful than camaraderie between girlfriends. Things are never going to get better for us unless we start respecting and supporting each other. 😀 xx
