Thank You Notes: Our World & Our Kids

Posted on

I love Fridays, I love thank you notes, and I love Jimmy Fallon’s Thank You Notes, so, naturally, Friday here on my blog means:

Thank You Notes and Jimmy Fallon!

Jimmy did not share Thank You Notes last week, and I’m changing things up this week too.

I would love a Friday where I didn’t have to bring up pain, sadness or hate….

Thank You Notes| It's FRIDAY, time for thank you notes!

I’m just tired. I feel like it’s the same thing each week, more sadness. I’m trying to remain happy and positive and then something else happens. It’s hard. Unfair. Ugly. Sad. And as a mother of three children, scary. I’m raising my kids during these troubling times. My kids have only known a country at war. We have been orange and yellow, black and blue, and fueled with hostility.

And as much as I worry about these uncertain times I’m raising my kids in, I’m thankful I have them. These kids make me smile, laugh, and fill me with hope. I’ve been drowning myself in their laughter, their carefreeness, and jubilant spirits. They are my fountain, I’m drinking the Kool-aid, I want what they have. So, it’s days like today that I’m thankful that even though there are horrible hate-filled days, I have these kids to help lift my husband and I.

The other day ago I was a little grumpy. I’m not quite sure why, maybe it was all the news, crappy sleep, or just me. My youngest daughter wrote me a sweet little note (as she often does) that said: Momma, I’m sorry you’re not you’re happiest today. I will make you cookies. I love you so, so, so much. ? Instantly I was all better! I didn’t need cookies… love works just fine. ? I did get those cookies though, a few days later, but boy were they worth the wait! My girls make one helluva tag team in the kitchen. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••Today’s prompt for #CreativeMomLife, hosted by @linkouture & I, is DRINK. ☕️ Coffee & Cookies ?

Tonight I’m thankful, that the five of us are fortunate to have each other to lean on. Thankful to hold hands and walk the Art Walk together and grab takeaway dinner, and watch Spartan races and enjoy each others’ company.

I think that’s where I’m going to leave this post. I’ll be back next week with Thank You Notes. I still would like to read yours! PLEASE share some good news with me.

It’s not a thank you note but I thought you might want to join me in a love challenge – cause this world could definitely use more love! http://www.hollymcberty.com/2016/07/lets-make-habit-of-loving-others.html

The world is in a scary place right now. Yet I remember it has always been this way. Except now we have social media, cell phones, cameras everywhere and the media to enhance the violence, interview the sadness and it is on 24/7. We have to detach at times and absorb the good that is still in the world. Like what you expressed here. Family, children’s laughter, good things to eat and time spent with those we love. Hang on to those. Remember, there is always, always something to be thankful for.

I was going to say almost exactly what Michelle says. Historical perspective helps. Most experts credit television news as being responsible for the end of the Vietnam War because its constant visual reports brought the awful news home to the majority of Americans who were previously unaware of its carnage. That said, I share your sadness and sympathize with your emotional response to the steady stream of bad news. It is terrible.

Family is never more important than when the world feels like it’s falling apart.

The other day Sam told me not to look at the news, but it’s unavoidable! Hoping this next week will be a happier one.

I’m thankful that you have your family to bring you some joy during these crazy weeks. It’s sweet that your daughter made you cookies to cheer you up. Each day I’m hoping that the news will be better.

These kids. So amazingly healing. And I hope upon hope we can make this world better for them. They deserve it so much.
    Cookies are healing.
    And friends like you.

I know how you feel and it can really get you down. We have to think positive and remember there’s always a light at the end of a tunnel.

So well said. Such hate, hurt and sadness in the world. I hope our combined love and kindness will prevail. Sending warm fuzzy hugs to you and your family.

True. I was just discussing this with my brother-in-law who just had his first baby last week. It can be scary to think about all the trials our kids will face and all the scary things that may be happening in the world by the time they are our age, but I’m also thankful for all the GOOD I see in the world. For the people who are trying to hold on to the light, to spread peace and love, and build a better place for these sweet kids of ours to live.

Hello Dean, I’m sorry you’re not feeling your usual happy self. I understand how you feel. We need more good news. Every time I think that things are improving I see more bad news on TV. Am I naive to think that someday things will be alright? I’m happy you have your husband and kids to lean on and that they have you. <3
