Your Hosts             Hosts TWSS Thank You Heart   Thanks for sharing your posts last week! 😉   Sophia Amoruso| Quote| #GIRLBOSS| Writing Prompt | TWSS, a link up inspired by women's words| writing Confession: I’m finally reading #GIRLBOSS. In the past, I found it weird to read autobiographies, it kind of seemed like I was studying a living person. Do you understand what I mean? But now, I delight in finding out the backstory of people (well, most of the time). It’s nice to hear how {some} people paved their way, pulling themselves up from the bottom to reach the top. One autobiography I was fascinated with was Rosie Perez’s. Sometimes, you think you know about a person due to what you see in the media or a quick 3 minute interview, but reading about her (or his) life can sometimes totally change your opinion. That was the case with Rosie. (If you haven’t read Handbook for an Unpredictable Life: How I Survived Sister Renata and My Crazy Mother, and Still Came Out Smiling, I totally suggest it.) With Sophia Amoruso, however, I honestly had no idea who she was. I just knew everyone loved her book, loved her message, and she had tons of pinnable quotes. I cannot rate #GIRLBOSS, because I am not finished. What I can tell you though, is that although I did not have ample time to read over the weekend, the time I did have to read, I read! I want to be a #GIRLBOSS! I know I want to do something creative, something more, and I plan on making something happen. Anyway, this post was not and is not intended to be a series of autobiography reviews, but it does sound like a good idea. I’m going to jot that down! [tweetthis]The energy you’ll expend focusing on someone else’s life is better spent working on your own.- Sophia Amoruso [/tweetthis] [tweetthis twitter_handles=”@Mrs_AOK”]Be your own idol!! #GIRLBOSS #TWSS [/tweetthis] CAN I GET AN AMEN?!?! If you are a man, a woman, a mother, a blogger, a baker, or even a candlestick maker, this applies to YOU! We are constantly comparing, it’s in our freakin’ social DNA. Like. Like. Like. Oh! How can I do that too? Why can’t I do that too? How does she do it all? I want, I want, I want. Does this sound vaguely familiar? Highlight-Reel Behind-the-Scenes When you start to compare your behind-the-scenes to others’ highlight reel you’re robbing yourself of your own time and energy. People tend to crop the other stuff out, display or promote the highlights, because who wants to see the shitty stuff?  Nobody says: I have two sinks full of dishes, I haven’t paid my bills, and I just threw on makeup with this beautiful jewelry for this perfect outdoors selfie, because sponsors and good lighting. Nobody says that! They say: Loving this spring weather and my new jewelry sent to me via ___FILL IN THE BLANK__ #SUNDAYFUNDAY#SP #GetYourLifeRight #JewelryOnFleek| Something like that. I guess what I am trying to say is… we. are. all. human. Nobody. is. perfect. We can sit and admire and daydream about the greener grass, but seriously is it greener? And if it is, perhaps it is because the grass is being watered and not neglected keeping a watchful eye on someone else’s. #GIRLBOSS DO YOU! Nobody is going to give you what you want without you asking for what you want. If you want something make it happen. If you admire what someone else has or does, why can’t you? You can, but make it yours! Do not go for exactly what they have, go for what you want and more, do it with your spin, your own creative approach and own that shit! (My inner #GirlBoss just came out me-ow!) And here’s a little something to remember, ready? Most people are faking it till they make it! #GirlBoss All actions are creative Faking it. I’m quite transparent here. In the past I struggled with the concept “fake it till you make it”, but after talking to countless bloggers and attending one blog conference, I was reassured that this is ‘the’ mantra. This is the thought I try to fall back on when I start to feel myself with a case of the greens, (greens: gazing at grass when you need to water your own) they may be “faking” it, also, we are all human- you can make that happen too! You’re human, I’m human, We’re all human!  Don’t get yourself down, focus on you, what you want, and how you’re going to get it. Now, go water your lawn! #GIRLBOSS: There are secret opportunities hidden inside every failure     XOXO

Hi! I love the direction in which the quote took you. It’s actually similar to where it took me. 😉 I’ve never been one to ‘keep up with the Joneses’ or envy everything new and shiny that other people get. I’m a simple person that enjoys the simple things in life. I do believe, however, in constantly learning and growing and sometimes you can achieve that by observing other people. Also, the mind is a very mysterious organ/gland but it isn’t beyond our control. We can certainly mold it and ‘fake it till you make it’ is one way of doing that. Like you, I’m all about being real and original, but if being a certain way is your goal than ‘faking it’ is just practice. 😉 xx

      Great minds 😉
Keeping the mind positive and working towards a goal or “faking it” can get you anywhere, I’m sure.
I like that, “if being a certain way is your goal then ‘faking it’ is just practice.” Thanks for your insight, Vashti!

I think Sophia Amoruso really is an inspirational girlboss. I have to admit that I didn’t love her book though. I’m interested in reading Rosie Perez’s book now! This quote makes me remember to always focus on myself and not fall into the comparison game. I don’t mean this in a selfish way…just that if you don’t do you, you’re focusing your energy in wrong place. Am I just saying what she is?? Ok, I really did love this quote though!

I’m actually enjoying her book. What did you not like about the book?
If you read Rosie’s book you’ll have to let me know. I was shocked by her past, I got upset quite a few times, I don’t want to spoil the book, but WOW!

Yes, Sophia is most certainly a #GIRLBOSS, I can totally appreciate her hustle! I need a little more of that. 🙂 You & Sophia are spot on. (:

I so want to read that book! And girl, you are amazing. Seriously. I just want to sit next to you and absorb the awesomeness. 🙂

P.S. Is it weird that I can hear you in my head saying, “You do you, boo boo!” hhehe

This —> And if it is (greener), perhaps it is because the grass is being watered and not neglected keeping a watchful eye on someone else’s.

YES!!! 100% yes. I think it is easy to forget to take care of yourself and your people.

I have not read Sophia Amoruso’s book, but it is on my list. My never ending list! And thanks to your good judgement so is Rosie Perez’s book!!

I love quotes like this that empower women to find their own identity and rock it like they own it! I have never heard of this book until today but I will definitely check it out.

I hope you had a great three-day weekend hun! Happy hump day Dean :).

I am right there with you, it’s nice to have strong women empower and lead the way for more “girl bosses”. Courtney & I wanted to showcase the beauty of women’s words: strong, empowering, and inspiring.

You will have to let me know if you read the book.
I had a lovely weekend, thank you!
      Happy almost weekend! 🙂

I totally loved #GIRLBOSS! In fact, I’m reading it again. You’re right about there being so many good gems in that book. Sophia is proof that no matter where you start in life, you can always achieve your dreams or turn your passion into a career/profit!

And I’m constantly reminding myself that comparison is the thief of joy and happiness. I’m determined to be my own idol. It’s great to have role models who inspire us, but at some point we have to inspire and look up to ourselves!

    1. MrsA0K2001

      May 28, 2015 at 2:26 pm

I’m almost done, and I wish the book were mine, because there are things I want to highlight. I’ll have to write down the gems to save, and help to create my “magic”. 🙂
Absolutely! I think we can admire, or inspire to have similar goals but we have to make sure our focus is our own life. 🙂

    I want to read #GIRLBOSS!
I really do try not to compare. It’s hard. So many of my blogging friends have gone onto the Huffington Post and other areas and I think, “Why not me?” Then I remembered that I haven’t actually.. submitted anything to such places! And that’s why!
So the comparison is pointless. It should just be an inspiration.

    1. MrsA0K2001

      May 28, 2015 at 2:41 pm

I try not to compare either, but I’m human, I question too. And then I remember just as you, if I want something, I need to hunt it down. I’m quite sure you could write for Huffington!

I wish more bloggers showed the behind-the-scenes, this-is-what-it-REALLY-looked-like-when-I-took-this-photo photo. On the outside it’s so easy for things to seem as if other’s lives are perfect when they are just human. I try to be real, but perhaps sometimes I give the illusion that things are just dandy (which sometimes they are, and a lot of the time I do have a giant pile of dishes in my sink and several loads of unfolded laundry in the basket!)

I need to work on faking it till I make it!

    1. MrsA0K2001

      May 29, 2015 at 1:50 pm

I have to admit, I’m a magician, I create some illusions as well. I figure Instagram is suppose to be pretty, so there is thought in some of my images, like lighting and positioning.
I currently have two and a half loads of laundry to fold. 🙁

It’s so easy to compare blogs. And here’s the thing: if you’re not aware of it, the comparisons are never-ending. I remember feeling overjoyed when I hit 200 views in one day. Then that starts to wane, and you’re back to seeing what everyone else has in their blog stats. And suddenly your current stats, which seemed impossible to reach back then, are now just ‘eh’ as you strive for more.

On one hand it’s always good to challenge yourself. But feeling envious of others’ success should simply be an affirmation that you can get there as well, not to feel down on your own luck. I love the quote about putting more effort into your own more worthwhile causes. That’s really where the differences matter anyway.

    1. MrsA0K2001

      May 29, 2015 at 1:57 pm

I think it is very easy for bloggers to find themselves in the comparing game. I’ll admit I have been there. When you start off it’s easy to see what others have and wonder “why not me”, but duh WORK and TIME. And like you said it comes in waves.

I’ll have to read the 2 autobiographies you mentioned! They never drew me in before but after liking Mindy’s, I’m willing to give memoirs a second chance. Definitely like this quote and your application. Not comparing myself to others via what people post on social media has been the biggest change in how I perceive my life. Once I stopped comparing, I enjoyed my life more. It’s so freeing!

    1. MrsA0K2001

      June 6, 2015 at 11:17 pm

I agree with you 100% once you stop the comparison life just gets easier. Rosie’s book was interesting, I had no idea what she went through.

The good ol’ ‘fake it to you make it’, man you can take that to mean so many different things. I’ve always taken it as to just get the work done, though it may not be perfect, because your not exactly an expert yet, something good out there is better than something perfect that isn’t. Sometimes doing those very things and putting oversells out there is just what we need to get to “expert” level. It comes down to building confidence, and ‘faking it to you make’ is definitely one of the ways you can build it! 🙂

    1. MrsA0K2001

      June 11, 2015 at 1:54 pm

I’m going to take it as a confidence builder for now on. I am in no way an expert, but I’m also not a rookie. I’m going to make it! And so are you m’friend!!

Elsa may have been the queen of ice and cold, but I swear her mantra has resonated in me: “Let it go”
I honestly can say when I chose to “let it go” I focused more on me and my prize, which is better than losing sight of ME.
