Watch This! Big News +JORD Watch Giveaway

*I received a free wooden watch from JORD in exchange for writing this post on my blog.

When my husband was in the Army one of his mentors told him he should buy a watch when he was promoted or received a new job. So, when my husband finished PLDC (Primary Leadership Development Course (That’s when he became a sergeant in the ARMY)) he got a new watch. When he secured his job as a civilian, he was given a new watch. There have been watches for different promotions over the years, as well as our ten year anniversary.
If you’ve been a friend to this blog for a while you know my husband’s job has taken us on a few journeys. When I started this blog we lived in Illinois, we moved to South Carolina, and currently we reside in Washington State.

I’m delighted to tell you my husband received the must stunning JORD watch to celebrate his new job!
Wooden watches by JORD GIVEAWAY!!
My husband actually was hired for two separate jobs within a week of each other. One of the jobs he was offered was here in Washington and the other in Chicago. Let’s just say we celebrated his new job with Chicago dogs while listening to Kanye’s Homecoming. 🙂 We’re going back to Chicagoland, friends!!! And I cannot tell you how ecstatic I am about that.

I’m coming home again 🎶

We are already beginning to pack and make sure we do all the Pacific Northwest things, like soak up the…. gray? Well, we’re enjoying our last few weeks here, which included skipping rocks on the beach, treasure hunting and watch-admiring. I mean c’mon have you ever seen such a beautiful watch before? My husband is totally in love with his JORD Dover Koa and Black wooden watch!!
(I think this is a good place to insert a HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to the best PAPA in the whole wide world. Thank you for going half on this journey with me, babe. I love you!!)

Wooden Watches by JORD

To be honest, I’m kind of jealous of my husband. I adore how unique JORD’s men’s and women’s watches are, I want one for myself. I also, think my husband’s new watch pairs nicely with the bracelet my daughter made for him. Don’t you?
Look at the spectacular packaging! I appreciate how JORD gives a little extra. I’m glad my husband has a safe place to store his new watch. Along with being excited about going back to Illinois, I’m also thrilled to announce that JORD is offering one lucky reader a $100 gift code for their very own JORD wooden watch!!! Also, my friends at JORD are generously giving everyone who enters the giveaway $25 towards the purchase of their watch!!! I CANNOT thank JORD enough for their generosity and their enthusiasm for my husband’s new job. 🙂

A Short Bucket List of the things we want to do before we move back

  • Visit the new Jimi Hendrix Park
  • Visit The UP House with balloons of course 🙂
  • One last picture in front of the gum wall
  • We HAVE to get another hike in
  • A bonfire at the beach
  • Carve our family name into the birch at the beach

Is there anything we missed on the list? What else should we do? And how gorgeous is my husband’s new watch?

#RAoK, Giveaway, holiday

On The First Day of Blogmas We’re Giving Back and GIVING AWAY!!

Welcome to Day 1 of 12 Days of Blogmas!

Today we’re focusing on giving back this holiday season, which is near and dear to my heart. 🙂 I’ve blogged about giving back and being kind to each other often, so of course when I saw this on the list of 12 Days I was ecstatic! While gearing up to write this post it got me in the holiday feel good spirit, so I took myself to Starbucks and paid for the person behind me. 🙂

I don’t know about you, but I need all the holiday spirit lately. I think we could all use it.

Merry Blogmas 12 Days, 12 Blog + 1 Huge Giveaway {Day 1 Giving back}

12 Ways You Can Give Back This Holiday

12 Ways to give back this holiday + one huge giveaway!

  1.  I already mentioned one. Pay for the person behind you in line.Pay It Forward
  2. Donate your time in the classroom. This is huge. I know teachers appreciate the help. Maybe while you’re there take the teachers some coffee. 🙂

3.Volunteer to read at your local library or children’s hospital.

12 Ways to give back this holiday season + a HUGE giveaway.

4Make care kits for the homeless: Gloves, dry snacks, toothpaste, toothbrush, lotion, baby wipes, socks, hand warmers, body wash, and Chapstick. Homelessness is rather abundant in Seattle and the surrounding areas, so this holiday I plan on stocking my glove box with gloves and socks.

5. Donate toys with your family. This is something my kiddos look forward to every year. We have donated to the Angel Tree Program and Toys for Tots . Also, check with your local schools, sometimes they can put you in contact with a family that may need a little assistance over the holidays.

Toy for toy drive

6. Hand out hot chocolate packets with Redbox movie codes. 🙂 My kids and I have done this in the past with popcorn. 🙂

7. Stick a dollar or two in the Dollar Spot at Target. It’s nothing huge, but for a kid browsing the Dollar Spot… DAY MADE.

8. Leave your postal worker some cookies in the mailbox. My tia {aunt} is a postal worker in Indiana; I think because of her and my frequent visits to the post office I have such a soft spot for postal workers. Every year we leave goodies for our postal carrier.

Give back this holiday season. 12 Ways you can give back this holiday season

9. Make or donate blankets to your local police/fire station or Project Linus.

12 Ways to give back this holiday season + a HUGE giveaway!

10. Don’t forget the troops! Send cards or care packages. You know I have a soft spot for our military. I’m the wife of a veteran and the daughter of one too (along with other countless family members and friends who have served).  I remember both my husband and my dad talking about how happy they were when a box showed up for them while they were deployed.

11. Send handmade cards to nursing homes.

Cards for the forgotten

12. Donate food to your local food pantry. During the holidays your local food pantry may run low on certain items. Also, remember to donate things that most people do not think to donate such as: gluten-free items, nut-free or lactose free items.

12 Ways to Give Back this Holiday Season + a HUGE Giveaway!!!

I could keep going, but I’ll stop there. I have a few posts linked below with more ideas, plus I’m sure you’ll want to read what everyone else has to share too. 🙂

Sticking with Creativity

So, here’s where I would usually post a quote. You know I love a good quote, but I’ll refrain from placing a big picture quote, because the quote I want to use is one I’ve used here quite a few times. Which quote? Oh the quote about not using up creativity because the more you use it the more you have… You know, that one. I totally believe this to be true.

Sticking to creativity! I got a chance to get my creativity and create some awesome stickers with my own original designs + my daughter's design too.

This weekend besides carb-loading (only on Saturday)

This girl got creative. I was in the zone like, I can’t stop-let’s do this-I’m ready-CREATIVE. I just couldn’t stop. I’m so excited that I allowed myself to get lost in it all! If you think this is another hint about what I’ve had up my sleeve for like EVER, you’re right, one last hint. Because you know what, I’m almost ready. It took some time for me to battle some demons, meaning: my own self doubt and over saturation of knowledge.  I’m done with all that. It’s about to happen. I have a few more finishing touches and it’ll be out there for the world.

For now though, let’s talk about the creative weekend I had a few weekends ago.

Do you remember when I made a phone case using CaseApp for my daughter?

The Case of Loving a Creative| When you love a creative and a creative giveaway with Case App| Mrs. AOK, A Work In Progress

Making my own phone case was ridiculously simple to do, and man did people LOVE it! My daughter is still in love with her case- her friends are too. They have even asked if they could order one! 🙂 That totally made me feel good. I guess I have some teen cred. My friends at CaseApp have a sister company that is just as awesome, StickerApp. StickerApp makes custom labels, stickers, and made to order stickers.  My daughters and I had the best time creating custom stickers on a Saturday morning.

You guys,  it’s so fun, easy, and kind of addicting to create stickers!

You just pick what kind of sticker you would like:

I decided to make various styles to show you some different examples. I used some of my own original designs that you’ve seen here on my blog and on Instagram. 😉

Here’s what you need to do: upload your image and size it to you’re liking- done!

My girls helped me choose which designs to use for my stickers. The girls really wanted in on the action, so I uploaded their designs, too. 🙂  (Their designs are the donut and coffee.)

I couldn’t make stickers without representing my blog! 🙂 The possibilities are endless, seriously. I made stickers for blog promotion, for happy mail, for good deeds (random acts of kindness), for my kids, for you, for me. 🙂 I can see using StickerApp for holiday mail and blog swaps. 😉

I honestly cannot say enough wonderful things about Sticker App.

My friends at StickerApp are the BEST!!  They are helping me celebrate my birthday month with a 20% off promo code for you to customize your own stickers using the: AOKBIRTHDAY20. That’s not it, friends!! StickerApp is giving away a $40 code to make your own stickers ANNNNNND a promo code to make your own case at CaseApp.

Thank You Notes| It's FRIDAY, time for thank you notes!

I was running a bit behind, so I thought if you guys wouldn’t mind, I’d write out my weekly thank you notes. Do y’all mind?

Thank you, America… err.. corporate America, for not making a mattress sale out of September 11th.

“Stay vigilant.” Those words still echo within me 15 years later. They were the words meant to help keep us safe and aware of our current surroundings and our unknown future. They were the words that hit me like a ton of bricks while I watched (from my hotel window) downtown Chicago scurry to safety and loved ones. They were the words that made me look to my fellow Americans with a smidge of skepticism, but they were also the words that made me realize more.

During my vigilant state, I realized that though we were a nation of heartache and mourners we were a nation of builders and family. We built bridges with our neighbors, smiling at them because they too felt the same heartache we did. It made us say “Hello” and truly care about the answer to “How are you” In the days after the horrific attacks on our land, it was my vigilance that made me also see past fear and see that kindness sincerely matters.

The most beautiful scene that is a lifetime embedded memory: a small parade of kids from different backgrounds holding flags in unity. When you’re 20, pregnant, new to the city, this is a memory you hold on to. This gave me strength and hope. We are stronger together. We’re better when we unite.

We’re better when we’re more than red & blue, black & white, rich & poor. It’s true, America, and you know it. Let us not forget, let us remember not only the day it happened, but the days after that exemplified our unity. I shared my 9/11 story on my blog, but I know my story in no way compares to the stories of those who were there, lost loved ones, or who had to run for their lives. The pain I felt while sobbing for strangers with flyers looking for loved ones was excruciating, but I know it pales in comparison to any hurt or pain of those families. #LessHateMoreLove

Thank you, hour in between picking up kids, for time with my teenager. Last Friday, we chatted over Starbucks. Can’t go wrong with a Starbucks date.

(She thought her drink was too pretty not to take a picture. 🙂 )

Speaking of Starbucks…

Thank you, Starbucks, for helping me cope through this 4-hour body meal plan. I don’t know what I’d do without YOU!!

Day 3 #4HourBody It’s been a while since my last confession here, so where shall I begin…. ? For starters I’ve lusted over my kiddos’ waffles, they looked so good. The butter melting over that hot bed of carbs with those beautiful syrup pockets!! I was strong- I held back. However, I fell prey to the seduction of the shiny green and voluptuous temptress- a grape. I ate a grape. One single grape, it was like eating a donut! Grapes are really good. ? Honestly, I’ve been really good with sticking to eating only my veggies & protein. BUT y’all know I’m all about my coffee. ☕️?

I can’t give up coffee with cream. Sure I could have a bulletproof coffee, but I’m just not there yet. This is my one treat. I look forward to my one cup in the morning and maybe one more in the afternoon. ☕️ I’m actually not having as hard of a time with this program as I thought I would. I think it’s because I’m eating (4x a day ?), and eating good. I cannot wait to see my results in a month’s time. But I promise I will not bombard you with a thousand pictures of my avocados and eggs or chicken and salad. ? ??

Thank YOU, for keeping my secret. 😉

Home Sweet Home: Daydreaming about my dream master bedroom and sharing a secret with my inner circle about my current house. :)

Thank you, football season, for letting the crazies out again. Just kidding… (I know what you’re thinking… Dean, but you’re a football crazy gal. You’re right I am! Maybe my yard needs a star)  🙂

Thank you, blog perks! I’m now a Stitch Fix Influencer!! I’m super excited to share my first Stitch Fix reveal next week. Stitch Fix has me so excited that I already scheduled my next box with personal stylist (affiliate link) to be delivered NEXT WEEK!!! 🙂 (My husband told me to go for it because it’s my birthday soon 🙂 )

You know what else I’m thankful for?

Good friends! Friends who inspire you with creativity and celebrate you. Like Vanessa, owner of the Etsy shop One of Rosa’s Petals. 🙂  Vanessa and I “met” not that long ago, and she’s been inspiring me with her creative drive to push her business to the next level (getting her items in stores) and being a kind & humble person through it all. Vanessa was so kind to help celebrate MY birthday, by giving away one of her fabulous necklaces to one of my friends. 🙂 Y’all probably remember my Frida necklace and that I might have a slight obsession with all things Frida, right? 🙂

Incase you don’t recall:

It’s DAY 1 of #CreativeMomLife hosted by my lovely friend @Linkouture and yours truly. ? Today’s prompt is About Me. I’m usually the worst when it comes to talking about myself. I know I blog about my life, which is cool, but ummm if you check my About Me page ::::crickets:::? Anyway, here goes nothing! 🙂

Hi. ?? I’m Dean. Dean is not my real name, however it’s what close friends and family call me. 🙂 ?Speaking of family… I’m married to my best friend. We’re about to celebrate 15 years of marriage. ???I have three kiddos that fill me with laughter and love each day. ?

I am a lover of many things but most importantly my family and friends.

✨I’m a believer in KINDNESS. I have faith that good will always prevail.

?Happy Mail is my love language.

⭐️I’m a misplaced Texan. I’ve lived in Germany, Texas, Illinois, South Carolina, and now Washington. ☕️Coffee, kindness, and L?VE fuel me.

? Writing, painting, and creating helped pull me out of the gray.

?As mentioned above I have a blog. Mrs. AOK, A Work In Progress, has been a creative outlet for me, and I LOVE IT!

??AOK are my initials.

? I’m a wannabe photographer.

✍️I love to write, doodle, Zentangle, watercolor, and try my hand at handlettering.

?I have a super obsession with notebooks, journals, markers, stamps, sugar skulls and all things Frida.

I’d love to hear about you! Share a little bit about yourself in the comments or join the challenge using the #CreativeMomLife. Do you have a friend who would like this challenge, tag ’em! Happy Friday and Happy July!!??

I’m also thankful for women trailblazers who have set a path for us to create & educate. I love that there are women who are proudly inspired by other women & create with them in mind. ••••••••••••••••••••••

I’m forever inspired by the work of Frida Kahlo. I’m so thankful for this handmade necklace from @1_of_rosas_petals that I will probably wear daily. Maybe… I secretly hope some of Frida’s creative juice will pour into my sometimes blank canvas.

Thank you, Labor Day Weekend, for being the long hard kiss goodbye of summer.

Because we were in denial that summer break was coming to an end, we were last minute shoppers. When you’re a last minute shopper you buildup an appetite and stop for sushi. When you stop for sushi and the sushi is on a conveyor belt in beautiful glass domes, it gets dangerous. 😀

Thank you, family, for carbs. How’s mama supposed to ever look like a swimsuit model with all these carbs?!?!

The girls made an AHHMAZING peach pie. I didn’t take pictures of it because we devoured it ASAP. This is the pie crust cookie hearts they gave us before the pie. OHEMGEE those were so goooood.

Sunday my baby girl and my husband made homemade pretzels. WOW!

We had a semi-traditional German dinner and watched the Longhorns Hook ’em. 😉

The carbs are ending for me soon. Well, not completely,  I will allow myself a treat or two. 😀

Thank you, PNW, for making sure to remind us where we live with a lovely sprinkling of rain and gray all day on the first day of school. Good light, who needs good light?

My mascara ran

Our first day of school pictures didn’t come out as good because lighting and rain, but that’s okay our traditional Happy 1ST Day of School Ice Cream was good (that’s what they told me anyway, because no ice cream for me).

LADIES!! I have a high schooler!!!

Thank you, September!!

Each week I’m going to celebrate my birthday with a giveaway!! And yes, the annual candy corn guessing game will still happen. 🙂

Today I’m just warming up, I’m giving a few goodies I picked up that I thought went well with Friday, Thank You Notes, and Jimmy Fallon. In the coming weeks I’m working with an awesome shop owner boss lady and a company that I love. You’ve seen them here before and they are hooking my friends up!

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, here’s what I have for you today.

Y’all I’m a sucker for note cards, pencils, and a good margarita. Although, it’s been forever since I’ve had one! (I must fix that SOON) I take my margarita on the rocks, I hope you do too. 🙂

Here’s how to win these goodies, are you ready? It’s real simple.

The Case of Loving a Creative + Giveaway

I’m making the case for creatives, love, and lovers of creatives.

Chances are that if you love a creative you’ll find yourself having glitter stuck to your feet, watercolors taking over your kitchen table, and wadded up balls of paper thoughts that didn’t make the cut. Chances are if this is the case you will attempt to oversee these things, these quirks, these symbols of your love’s work and frustration. You could get angry and vacuum away glitter, pour out watercolors, or iron out paper wads, but if you love a creative that’s not what you do at all. Because to love a creative is to accept them flaws, creative quirks and all. If you truly love a creative you push them, let them know they can do it. You live with the glitter, you learn a little about watercolors, and you encourage the writer of words.

Mrs. AOK, A Work In Progress: Coffee and Crafting

If you love a creative you may hear “Does this make me look fat” but more than likely you’ll hear, “Is this good enough? Should I share?” And if you truly love said creative you’ll tell him or her the truth in the most constructive way. You may even say, “Babe, you are your worst critic. I love your work, woman!” (or man) You don’t have to say those words, you have to mean those words, because creatives know when you’re lying. It’s true. Creatives have a special talent of not only creating but mind reading too.

Hey, lover, this is more than a crush|Loving a creative|Brush lettering

Creatives may sometimes have 50,000 tabs running at one time. He or she may consider different adventures, sometimes they’re lucrative and sometimes they’re not, but they make said creative happy, and that makes you happy. Happiness is an emotion that spills over and pours into your life and trickles down, you want to catch that and keep it going, don’t let it get drained. It’s not your sole responsibility to keep the creativeness coming, but it is part of loving a creative to cheer on the creativeness… the happiness that is: making.

My Brain Has Too Many Tabs

When your creative gets an offer for a creative endeavor but starts to open up all the tabs and the rainbow spinning wheel takes over, you say, “You got this.” OR you may say, “This one is my favorite. I think you should go with this!” And chances are the creative will listen to you and create this…

Creating with Case App

Case App contacted me about creating a custom iPhone case or  laptop skin using my own design, of course I said YES! However, I was stumped. I kept kicking around ideas, the wheels began to spin, and I started thinking out loud. That’s when my love said, “Babe, you should use the Zentangle Frozen drawing. That drawing is really good.” That man is a genius! I drew that picture last year and it was one of my most liked and commented images I shared on Instagram. It was also the drawing that sparked so many ideas for future projects, so yes, he was right, I SHOULD use that image. And obviously I did. I also used some of the clipart available on the Case App website. It took me less than 30 minutes to create a custom case for one of my love and I’s greatest masterpieces: our daughter.

Case App iPhone Case|Giveaway! Mrs. AOK, A Work In Progress

I’m going to toot my own horn for a second, all of my daughter’s friends LOVE her new case. They told her they want to put an order in for one of my designs, those kids are geniuses too! 🙂 I’m thankful that my husband gets me. I’m glad that he knew I would stir myself dizzy trying to figure out things when all along the answer was in front of me. It’s the best to know that he believes in me. It’s also super awesome of Case App to give one of you lucky readers a $40 credit to make your very own custom case!

#RandomAOK {A Kindness Challenge}

Kindness is a verb to me. I try to live my life with kindness at the forefront, I’m not perfect though, there are days kindness blows away with the gust of anger and madness that life can sometimes throw our way. I would love to tell you I have never said an unkind word, but that would be lying and I’m no liar. When ugly words fill my head or come across my lips I become upset with myself because I know better. I know that we are all in a struggle, we should try our hardest to be a little kinder. I also know I’m human and I’m in no way perfect, so I just need to try harder next time. Today, while I was out with my husband we celebrated Veterans’ Day, the kids’ elementary school put together a sweet assembly for our veterans, that assembly was one big act of kindness! And as you imagined- those of you who know me- yes, I cried. If Taps  doesn’t make you get choked up or cry, then I don’t know what will. (Then again, I’m an Army brat and veteran’s wife.)

The assembly set the tone for the day, we (my husband and I) talked about our Army days, we talked about the veterans we knew who we lost, and we talked about life. Life. I’m always thankful for life, but when you’re reminded once more of how life can be taken away it really makes you even more grateful to be alive. When you think about the sacrifice the military and military families give day in and day out :::heavy sigh::: that’s one of the HUGEST acts of kindness. We take from them daily, they’re giving us freedom, and in return they don’t ask for much.  Anyway, ::choking back more tears:: I made it a point to smile at people today, say hello, and open doors. One of our stops was the USPS, I went alone while my husband took a call for work. I carried a big box into the post office and a woman was ahead of me, so surely she would open the door for me, right? WRONG! To me little things like opening doors, smiling, saying hello, and asking someone about their day (and really listening) are all acts of kindness. So, in the spirit of kindness and thanks giving 😉 I came up with a little something.

Yesterday, I posted a challenge on my Instagram, I asked people to write a thank you note each day this week to someone. Here’s the actually post:

After I posted this my sweet friend Lowanda of Sunshine and Elephants reminded me that this week was World Kindness Week, which made think I need to do something more! The Fall, Back to Blogging, Birthday Giveaway! I'm so happy for: the start of fall, getting back to blogging after my hiatus, and my birthday, so I decided we should celebrate with a fall giveaway!! No need to follow, like, heart, and hula hoop just take a guess . :)

The Happy Fall, Back To Blogging, Birthday GIVEAWAY!!

It’s been waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long! I’m excited to finally get back to blogging, and when I say excited… (pause here for overly eager animated voice) I mean throwing candy corn in the air excited. 🙂 Because I don’t eat candy corn, but I love it. {Weird?}  Anyway, some of you may have followed my journey from South Carolina to Washington state on Instagram, I sort of turned my IG into a microblog. If you did follow along THANK YOU! If you have not been following along you’ve been missing out!!

That’s okay because I’ve put together a recap of my crazy last few months that will go live next week. (The first installment of Across The Country with Three Kids, a Dog, and Our Sanity is kind of a tear jerker, bring Kleenex.) I had ZERO intention of taking a two month break from blogging. Honestly, I didn’t completely take a full-on break because I did post every Sunday (eh hem Mommy Monday Blog Hop) plus I still was a part of #MotherhoodChat on Twitter. (Shameless plug: this Sunday will discuss bullying with Bowling To End Bullying, come join us!)

The Happy Fall, Back to Blogging, Birthday Giveaway!!! I'm so happy for the start of fall, back to blogging after my hiatus, and my birthday, so I decided we should celebrate in true fall fashion!! No need to follow, like, heart, and hula hoop just take a guess . :)

So, in honor of getting back to blogging, my favorite season, and my birthday (on Wednesday 😉 ) I’m sharing a giveaway! I did the same type of giveaway last year and it was tons of fun. I think people enjoyed it because it took us back to our childhood class parties where we would lean as close as we could to the jar without touching to take a guess. I encourage you to lean up to your computer screens and get to guessing! No likes, follows, hearts, or hula hoops needed just a simple guess will do ya 😉 Leave your guesses below in the comments and if you would like to share that would be great too! I have the answer taped to the bottom of the jar (my team counted and wrote down the number). I will reveal the number & winner on October 2, next Friday. I cannot wait to see your guesses!!

Happy Fall Y’all!!
