It’s Fall Y’all!!

Fall box swapAnd it’s been too long since our last seasonal box swap. Heck, it’s been too long since my last real post. My life has been a bag of jelly beans- all mixed up, colorful, with a few yucky flavors, but nonetheless full. I plan on sharing it all, but honestly I haven’t had time to sit still and let it out. Along with that: the world, people, the world! Things have been crazy, right? What the world needs now is love sweet love… happy mail works too. 🙂 Or at least that’s our hope, to bring some smiles, happiness and possibly new friendships into this world.

You’ve Got Happy Mail {Unboxing and Small Shop Love}

I love happy mail.

Like a lot. Perhaps, my love affair dates back to the days when my Dad was stationed in some far off place and sent us mail. It was nice to receive a letter from him and occasionally stickers. One time he sent stickers that came in a cookie package, they smelled so heavenly. I also fondly remember the days of I Can Read books in the mail when I was younger. Those mail days always made me happy. When I was older my parents were part of a music mail service, do you remember those? You were able to pick out X amount of CDs each month or every 3 months, I don’t completely remember, but it was awesome. My parents chose their CDs and my brother and I chose ours (my older siblings were grown and out of the house at the time).

Perchance that’s why I was an early adopter to Netflix? I was a part of Netflix before Netflix was all digital and chill. Do you remember that? Jiminy Cricket I’m sounding really old right now, aren’t I? 🙂 The best happy mail that I received was from my husband. When he would send us (my oldest daughter and I) letters and random surprises while he was in Iraq, those surprises helped keep me going. I wrote to him like one would drink water. If my writing was not sent to him, it was in the book. I wrote pretty much every single day he was gone in a book to document our life while he was away.

You’ve got happy mail

I live faraway from family and friends, happy mail is a distant hug that I need from time to time. Thankfully, I have friends and some family members who love to spread happiness in the mail, so I’m sending and receiving mail often-ish. 🙂 I’m definitely sending out mail seasonally- I just wrote about that here. Today I want to share a recent happy mail box I received. If you’re a happy mail lover, you’re going to swoon over this. You know I did.

A few weeks back I entered a Happy Mail loop giveaway on Instagram. I honestly didn’t think the odds were in my favor. However,  I decided to give it a try because all the shops in the giveaway are awesome and obviously they share the same affinity for happy mail as I do.

Dani from Big Hugs Little Envelopes tagged me on Instagram to let me know I won on a Saturday morning. Saturday + Happy Mail Giveaway Win= Happy Saturday Happy Mail Happy Dance! And I mean like MC Hammer style running man. (Again with the dating myself!)

Happy Mail Unboxed {Small Shop Love}

Are you ready to see what I got?

Before I share all of my goodies… Happy 2 Years in Business, Big Hugs Little Envelopes (BHLE)! (That was the reason for this giveaway. 🙂 )

Dani, the lady behind Big Hugs Little Envelope, is such a sweetheart by the way. She’s a super supporter in the small business community and in her own community. I’m enjoying getting to know Dani via Instagram. 🙂 You may want to follow her there. But I think you’ll certainly wanna check out her shop. “My shop quickly grew beyond greeting cards, and I now feature all sorts of items that are designed to spread kindness and love.” <- You’ve got to get behind that!

BHLE sent me three sticker pages, a set of happy mail cards, pens, and BHLE lip balm. The super cute lip balm holder is courtesy of Brite Designs Studio .

These cards by Tiny Gang Designs are just too adorable, right? A special teacher received the fish card. 🙂

I had fallen in love with Dani’s envelope earrings when she shared them on Instagram, so I was quite excited that I won my own pair from Obsessories LA.

Brite Designs also sent these goodies a notepad that has already been put to use and these lovely handmade cards.

A girl loves stamps. 😉 I’m the girl and I love stamps.  I have quite the collection. I’m happy to add Bossy Joscie‘s Happy Mail stamps to my collection.

But wait there’s more…

A happy mail stamp and die cut!! Thank you, Honey Bee Stamps!

MORE CUTE CARDS!! The Box Berry gets me with the peace, love, taco card.  🙂

Craft Me Chic sent over these sweet happy mail bookmarks.

This handmade charm form Polka Dots and Pickles is currently on my keychain. I’m seriously in love with it.

Nacci’s Needleworks‘s bookmark and coffee cozy are the perfect handmade goodies for a coffee/handmade/happy mail lover.

The Knotty Redhead almost started a fight up in this house. 😀 Just kidding… sort of. The girls called dibs on this guy right away.

Thank you to all the wonderful shops for my box full of happy mail goodies!! I’m enjoying sharing the happy mail, I even have a package ready to ship for my happy mail partner in crime. 🙂

I hope you will go check out all the shops and show them some support.

A Gift Guide For Creative Ladies

It’s Day 7 of 12 Days of Blogmas and we’re talking GIFTS! Today I’m sharing a gift guide for creative ladies.

Merry Blogmas! Day 7 Gift Guide {12 Days, 12 Blogs + 1 Huge Giveaway}

All The Creative Ladies, All The Creative Ladies

Believe it or not if you’re a creative or your know a creative lady, we’re in the same boat as The Queen B herself. 🙂 That’s right, we create, defy, and we slay all day. If only we could say we were making bank like Beyonce. 🙂 Anyway, this summer I was happy when Fast Company had an article about what creatives/business owners could learn from Beyonce. Fast Company always has such great articles that totally relate to creatives, that’s why Fast Company is one of my number one picks for creatives.

One of my top picks for creatives.

I  pulled together a few goodies that would make the perfect gifts for your favorite creative lady friends (and you too, you creative, you) to slay all day.

I can’t speak for all creatives, I can only speak for myself, but I NEED organization and lists to keep me in check. This year things got better for me because I became more of a planner. I can no longer live without a planner. I’m in love with this Erin Condren Planner

Gifts for creative ladies: Erin Condren PlannerWhat creative wouldn’t love to create their own phone case?  I have created two cases using CaseApp, and they are the best. The case I created this time around has a quote that will remind me to just keeping being me.

Big Magic is THE book for creatives. I put this book on hold as soon as it came out and my library still hasn’t contacted me. Thankfully, I was gifted my own copy. However, before I got my hands on my own copy I was binging on Elizabeth Gilbert’s Magic Lessons podcasts.

Day 3 Gift Guide

Today is Day 3 of 12 Days of Blogmas and we’re sharing gift guides!! Hold up, did you catch Day 1 and 2Anyway, back to the gift guide. I put together a gift guide for EVERYONE. 🙂 I hope you enjoy.

You get a gift, you get a gift…

Everyone gets a gift!!! 🙂

You get a gift, you get a gift, EVERYONE GETS A GIFT in this year's gift guide. :)

Ladies first…

For Her

Day 3 of 12 Days of Blogmas: A Gift Guide For Everyone!! {For Her}

  • It’s not a secret, I’m totally in love with all of Shelly’s designs. She nailed it with this choker. Chokers are back!!! Happy 90’s running man dance. 🙂
  • STITCH FIX! I have had two “fixes” and I’m a fan. My fall fix was EVERYTHING. Check it out for youself here. Anyway, Stitch Fix has gift cards!!
  • Let it snow, let it snow, let it JON SNOW!! If your girl is a GoT lover this shirt SHOULD be in her closet. WINK WINK 😉
  • My girl Bev makes the most beautiful hammered sterling silver jewelry. I have a similar pair of earrings that she made and they get all sorts of love when I wear them.
  • Fitbits are cool, but sometimes you want to look a little fancy and that chunky plastic band isn’t cutting it. BUT this silver rose gold metal band does the trick. 🙂

For Him

Day 3 of 12 Days of Blogmas: A Gift Guide For Everyone!! {For Him}

  • The NFL Ugly Sweater Socks  are the perfect pair of socks for your NFL loving man (or woman… I actually own a pair). My family has a thing for socks.

  • These Captain Morgan tall glasses are the coolest! They are handmade and awesome, need I say more?
  • My husband is obsessive about his Fitbit, and I know he would love the new Fitbit Blaze. I’m not sure if he’s getting it this year, but it’s on the list for sure.
  • Stitch Fix! What!?!? Yes, you read that right. Stitch Fix is for the fellas now, too.

For Kids

Day 3 of 12 Days of Blogmas: A Gift Guide For Everyone!! {kids}

  • LEGO bricks,  although painful to step on, are the perfect toys to have in the home. Kids can spend hours building and creating new things. They can use what’s that thing called…. their imagination! I love ’em. This super cute DIY LEGO Ornament  is perfect for the holidays.
  • My son loves fact books. He is my phone-a-friend. I’m quite sure this 5000Awesome Facts (About Everything) book would make the perfect addition to a fact lover’s collection.
  • It’s been a while since the last Diary of Wimpy Kid, so the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid #11 Double Down has been an anticipated new read kids will surely love. Who doesn’t love Greg Heffley?
  • ALEX Toys DIY Ceramic Mug Kit is the perfect gift for the kid who loves art and hot cocoa. eh hem… 🙂
  • HARRY. POTTER. Did you just read that with excitement or like Voldemort? However you read it, this Harry Potter Charm bracelet is too cute not to consider for the Harry Potter fan in your life.

For Teens

A Gift Guide for EVERYONE!! {For Teens}

  • Who wouldn’t love this Support Your Local Girl Gang tote to carry their books?
  • After I left high school I thought that was it, I’m done with that. Why would I ever need to hangout at a high school ever again? “Well, Dean, one day your babies grow up and even though you’re not ready for it, they do, so buck up.” Yup.  Since I’ve been at the high school quite a bit, a few things are evident: teens love phones and they love earphones. So yeah, iBeats by Dre are kind of a thing. Totally. I mean… literally. 😀
  • This Stranger Things sweatshirt is BRILLIANT! Will? Are you there?
  • This is the stage in kids’ lives where they would like to pick out things for themselves, so a gift card is perfect. Trust me, I asked a teen (and I was a teen). 😉
  • STICKERS! You never grow out of stickers especially when you can customize them yourself with StickerApp.

My Husband’s New Friend Michelle

*This post contains affiliate links. I am part of the Stitch Fix Influencer program, therefore I’m sharing links to Stitch Fix. These links cost nothing to you, but help me should you decide to try Stitch Fix, too.

Ladies, you know I’m crazy in love with my guy. So, I know when you read the tittle of this post you may have did a ….

But wait! I know you have my back, and I’ve got yours, too. Michelle is awesome! She’s my Stitch Fix stylist. I know you’re wondering how does that make her my husband’s friend.. good question!

My husband's new friend, Michelle, has style. She actually styled me! I'm not jealous of her, at all, I'm actually quite fond of her. She's my... stylist!! That felt really fancy to write. I'm not fancy at all, but Stitch Fix has me feeling all fancy. Check out my FALL fix.

Here’s Why Michelle is My Husband’s New Friend

She saved the day for him! And when I say the day, I mean MY day. 🙂 I’m not going to bash my guy, he’s awesome. I’ve said it here a million times… he’s my everything and he makes me the happiest. With that said, sometimes, he’s a little lost and slightly last minute in the gift-giving department. This year with the help of Michelle he totally hooked me up!!

I’m not one to spend money on myself, if I do it’s usually clearance or thrifted.  Anyway, after my first box I received a waived fee as a Stitch Fix Influencer for my second box. I told my husband and he was all, “GET IT, WOMAN!” “Your birthday is coming up, maybe something in there will be perfect for your birthday.” So, I went ahead and scheduled a box. Well, before I scheduled my box I made sure to give my stylist a little more info as to who I am; I added a picture to my profile and I sent her some of my style boards via Pinterest. Michelle took that info and RAN WITH IT!!

I feel so fancy saying this, but this note is from my personal stylist, Michelle. In the event you were wondering if Stitch Fix keeps your style in mind when sending out goodies, they totally do. Thank you, Michelle.

The box showed up before my birthday on a lovely fall day.

I cannot even tell you how excited I was to go through this box. My husband saw my face light up with each item I pulled out of the box. Him: “She nailed it. She totally got your style with this one.” He’s right, she did. Everyone was home when I got the box, so I was prompted to give a fashion show, which I did. And you know what, they loved it all too. My husband turned to me and said “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!”

Of course, I wasn’t sure because I’m super thrifty, so I started making excuses as to why I didn’t need anything. Remember how I said the whole crew was around? Well, they totally had their papa’s back on this one. They started to say sweet things like: you deserve it, you never get anything for yourself, you should have nice things too, mama, you look happy and beautiful. And then Mr. Wall Street said, “Babe, this is an investment, a good one.”

Want to see what I invested in? Stitch Fix Box #2

I'm so in love with all the things my Stitch Fix stylist sent me in my second box! Come see what she sent and maybe signup to get a box of your own, too. :)

Where do I even begin?

Toms Desert Wedge Booties: Kept

Let’s start with the shoes!! Toms Desert Wedge Booties in gray, which happen to match perfectly with my gray sugar skull purse. 🙂  My girls love Toms! I actually didn’t own a pair of Toms but I’ve been buying them for years for the girls. I’ve also purchased a lace up pair for my husband.

(Found an OLD Instagram post to prove the love.)

A photo posted by Dean ?? (@mrs_aok) on

When I saw this pair of Toms in my box I was instantly in love and when I was able to walk in them… SOLD! I love Toms too!!! If you didn’t know Toms has a One for One program, you buy something, they give something to someone in need. Gotta love that! 🙂

Can we talk about this Alpine Plaid Wrap Scarf? Kept

It’s amazing! I’m still learning how to tie it in all the Pinteresty ways.  Get ready to see this baby in rotation in more ways then one. It’s warm, functional, and great quality. Totally a keeper.

Market & Spruce Liz Textured Sweater: Kept

My second Stitch Fix unboxing

This picture does not do the sweater justice. This sweater is beautiful and I loved it the minute I pulled it out of the box. There’s a blue hue stitched in the little squares that gives it a unique look that I like. Before even trying on the sweater my husband knew this sweater was perfect for me.

Hi, I’m Dean, and I’m a sucker for sweaters. I have a collection of ratty sweater coats I won’t get rid of, they’re the best. I’m wearing one now and I wore one the other day ago with my Edgar Allan Poe shirt, I think it went perfectly. 🙂 Perhaps, one day this sweater will be in that stash that my husband makes fun of, but for now it’s perfection and I’ve been treating this baby with care.

Check out what my Stitch Fix stylist sent me!! All the heart eyes here!!

Pistola Tory Distressed Ankle Zip Skinny Jean

Michelle was right, I do love a good distressed jean. I’m a (displaced) Texas gal, I love jeans and I love holey jeans. 🙂  Who use to own zipper ankle jeans when they were younger? Not me 🙁 I always wanted a pair though. I remember always loving Susan’s zipper ankle jeans in school. I don’t know why I never asked for zipper ankle jeans as kid, but I always wanted them. Michelle + my husband made that a reality for me. I NEVER, EVER, EVER, would spend this much on jeans. But again, Mr. Wall Street said it was an investment and he also said a certain region looked good in these jeans. 😉 I guess this is where I should start referring to my husband as my Instagram husband because he took these pictures of me in my Stitch Fix clothes that him and Michelle hooked me up with.

the-perfect-psl-outfit-stitch-fixOf course that’s a PSL in my hand. If I’m going to be basic might as well go all the way, right?stitch-fix-fall-outfit-back

Tinsel Odensay Cargo Vest: Kept

I’m pretty sure green cargo anything is in for fall. Amiright?

I’ve always loved the green utility vest/jacket look. And green also happens to be my favorite color. This vest is warm. It’s lined inside, which is perfect for the PNW, where it can get cold but not Chicago cold. The collar is removable, which I like. I don’t know if I’ll wear the collar much, maybe if I’m trying to dress up things. My teen is already eyeing up this vest. She’s already worn my Toms. I kind of wished this vest has a hood, because PNW. Regardless, I love it.

Fall Stitch Fix Box Unboxing

So, as you can see I kept everything! Michelle and my Instagram husband did great! I’m excited to share how I style these clothes all fall long. I’m in no way a fashion blogger, but I do want to show you how these clothes are investments that I plan to take care of and wear often. You did good, my stylish tag team, you did good! (I also appreciated that one of the companies gives back and another company focuses on sustainability. Those things do matter to me, not sure if Michelle got that from my Pinterest or not, but COOL. For pete’s sake I drive a Subaru.)

I guess I may owe him a box…

What!?! Yes, my husband will be in front of the camera next time. Stay tuned!

Here’s how it works:

  1. Create a profile| This part is super simple, you answer a few questions regarding style add your personal info, done. Don’t forget to share your Pinterest style board, this is helpful to your stylist. StitchFix.com
  2. Schedule your fix| You pick when you want a box mailed to you. Stitch Fix is NOT a monthly obligation. There is a $20 styling fee, free shipping, and five handpicked items show up to your doorstep.
  3. Fashion Show!! It’s like Christmas morning. Tear into that box and try on those clothes!
  4. Checkout| You can checkout from your computer or using the Stitch Fix app. When you check out you are prompted to rate items this helps your stylist for future fixes. The $20 styling fee is deducted from the items you keep. If you decide to keep it all, 25% is deducted from your entire purchase.
  5.  Return Items You’re Not Keeping| Stitch Fix supplies you with extra packaging within your box that is already labeled and ready to ship off.

Stitch Fix Signup!!

Side note:

There is a real person styling you. The more help you give your stylist the better your box will be. Michelle, my stylist, (which feels completely weird for me to say) took my information I gave to her and went with it in the most fantastic way. So, if you do sign up make sure to share a picture of yourself, fill out the profile completely, and add links to your different Pinterest boards. If there’s something specific you’re looking for leave a note for your stylist. I made sure to do all these things with this box.

What’s your favorite fall style? What would you ask your stylist to send you?

that there are 20 other tabs open in my brain right now, which is causing me to go blank here. Shut up, TABS!

that I wrote this yesterday and never posted. Hey, It’s Okay Tuesday on a Wednesday… again.

Hey, It's Okay Tuesday on a Wednesday| Mrs. AOK, A Work In Progress

that this post is a twofer.

that I’m annoyed when people type “goals” in the comments of celebrities’ pictures, but not because they’re doing anything meaningful or productive. (And if I see “Bae Goals” I want to throw up or pull my hair out, but hair goals. 😀 ) How about graduate from college goals, be kind to other people goals, or how about good parenting goals, being the best person in society goals; Kim Kardashian should not be your goal. Sorry, I just got all grouchy lady next door on you…

Speaking of goals, how about Spring Goals? The lovely, kind, and tell-it-like-it-is Stephanie of Life According to Steph has a seasonal linkup that I had to join! Because GOALS 😀 If someone typed “goals” under some of Stephanie’s IG pictures I could understand, because she actually does something, she doesn’t just talk she walks the walk for others. “Good person goals” “Tell it like it is goals” “Pug life goals” 😀

Let’s get to my goals…

Submit my writing. I’ve been the worst at submitting my writing. I get in my own head. My thoughts: This isn’t good enough. Does anyone really want to read this?  It’s sad, I know. This winter I did a roundup of old posts and I’ve got to say… I wrote some pretty darn good posts. Why am I my own worst critic sometimes!?!?!
Garden. We haven’t had our own garden since we lived in Illinois, I think with the room we have in the backyard we can possibly plant some veggies in pots around the yard. Side note: Umm.. why did these kids grow up SO FAST!?!?!
Lastly, I seriously have hair goals! 😀 My goal is to do something with my hair and stop talking about doing something with my hair. Should I cut my hair super short, ladies? Here’s something I’m afraid of: regret. I don’t want to cut my hair off and have summertime sadness when I see ladies with long pretty hair in swimsuits and sun dresses. Sometimes I love my hair, but sometimes I’m done wearing a bun or topknot.

So, what’s up with you? What are your goals? What are you okay with this week? And seriously, help a sister out. Please. 🙂

Giveaway, Things I Love

The Case of Loving a Creative + Giveaway

I’m making the case for creatives, love, and lovers of creatives.

Chances are that if you love a creative you’ll find yourself having glitter stuck to your feet, watercolors taking over your kitchen table, and wadded up balls of paper thoughts that didn’t make the cut. Chances are if this is the case you will attempt to oversee these things, these quirks, these symbols of your love’s work and frustration. You could get angry and vacuum away glitter, pour out watercolors, or iron out paper wads, but if you love a creative that’s not what you do at all. Because to love a creative is to accept them flaws, creative quirks and all. If you truly love a creative you push them, let them know they can do it. You live with the glitter, you learn a little about watercolors, and you encourage the writer of words.

Mrs. AOK, A Work In Progress: Coffee and Crafting

If you love a creative you may hear “Does this make me look fat” but more than likely you’ll hear, “Is this good enough? Should I share?” And if you truly love said creative you’ll tell him or her the truth in the most constructive way. You may even say, “Babe, you are your worst critic. I love your work, woman!” (or man) You don’t have to say those words, you have to mean those words, because creatives know when you’re lying. It’s true. Creatives have a special talent of not only creating but mind reading too.

Hey, lover, this is more than a crush|Loving a creative|Brush lettering

Creatives may sometimes have 50,000 tabs running at one time. He or she may consider different adventures, sometimes they’re lucrative and sometimes they’re not, but they make said creative happy, and that makes you happy. Happiness is an emotion that spills over and pours into your life and trickles down, you want to catch that and keep it going, don’t let it get drained. It’s not your sole responsibility to keep the creativeness coming, but it is part of loving a creative to cheer on the creativeness… the happiness that is: making.

My Brain Has Too Many Tabs

When your creative gets an offer for a creative endeavor but starts to open up all the tabs and the rainbow spinning wheel takes over, you say, “You got this.” OR you may say, “This one is my favorite. I think you should go with this!” And chances are the creative will listen to you and create this…

Creating with Case App

Case App contacted me about creating a custom iPhone case or  laptop skin using my own design, of course I said YES! However, I was stumped. I kept kicking around ideas, the wheels began to spin, and I started thinking out loud. That’s when my love said, “Babe, you should use the Zentangle Frozen drawing. That drawing is really good.” That man is a genius! I drew that picture last year and it was one of my most liked and commented images I shared on Instagram. It was also the drawing that sparked so many ideas for future projects, so yes, he was right, I SHOULD use that image. And obviously I did. I also used some of the clipart available on the Case App website. It took me less than 30 minutes to create a custom case for one of my love and I’s greatest masterpieces: our daughter.

Case App iPhone Case|Giveaway! Mrs. AOK, A Work In Progress

I’m going to toot my own horn for a second, all of my daughter’s friends LOVE her new case. They told her they want to put an order in for one of my designs, those kids are geniuses too! 🙂 I’m thankful that my husband gets me. I’m glad that he knew I would stir myself dizzy trying to figure out things when all along the answer was in front of me. It’s the best to know that he believes in me. It’s also super awesome of Case App to give one of you lucky readers a $40 credit to make your very own custom case!

Welcome to the last Thank You Notes of 2015!!

I cannot believe that 2015 is nearing the end. For the next two weeks I plan on inhaling what’s left of 2015 with my family. I foresee plenty of pajama days & hot cocoa. I’m looking forward to this downtime, but to be honest I’ll miss you! Let’s keep in touch!! You can always catch me on Twitter & Instagram. You’ll probably see two or three more posts out of me, but as for Thank You Notes this is it for 2015!

Thank You, Jimmy!

I love Fridays, I love thank you notes, and I love Jimmy’s Thank You Notes, so, naturally, Friday here on my blog means: Thank You Notes and Jimmy Fallon!

Jimmy’s Thank You Notes:

Thank you, ugly sweaters, for becoming mainstream. The kids had “Festive Sweater Day” at school, which meant we had a crafty night in the middle of the week. Crafty nights are fine by me. 🙂

Thank you, thoughtful friend & thoughtful teacher. It’s always exciting to receive happy mail, but when you get double happy mail in one day- AFTERNOON MADE! I got the soap via backpack mail from my daughter’s teacher for my “helping hands”. My husband thought it was a fitting gift considering he believes I catch the cooties from volunteering at the school.

Thank you, December, for zooming by. Like really, what’s the rush? Can’t we just slow things down? I feel like we didn’t get enough time to get to know each other. You can call me old school, but I like to take my time.

This one is pretty much an annual thank you note. (Wow! This is my second December doing Thank You Notes- see time flies!)  Thank you, Amazon Prime, (affiliate link) for being an old school gal’s (procrastinator’s) lifesaver.

I’m a tea drinker too, but coffee trumps tea for me. I’m going to put a disclaimer out there: I love Starbucks, I know, that’s so basic. BUT WAIT.. I’ve tried other coffee places and if you can’t make a proper Americano, then BOO on you. There was this place (of  all places) in SOUTH CAROLINA that handcrafted WONDERFUL coffee! Collective Coffee. Sometimes I find myself craving their Almond Latte.

Collective Coffee has a hipster vibe, a Pinterest-perfect vibe, a get your phone out it’s Instagram-time vibe, and a total chill vibe. The people who worked there, when I went, were the friendliest people.

The coffee is good, but I still frequent Starbucks. I do love that there are plenty coffee huts, but the only one that I really enjoyed thus far is Mercury Coffee.

Back to my disclaimer…. sorry. I am also a shareholder. Yes, I seriously have stock in Starbucks. I was already giving them money might as well make a little money while spending it. Speaking of getting paid, I’m also a Starbucks affiliate, which means some of the products I share today will make me a little money if you decide to purchase using my links. 🙂 There’s no extra cost to you.

1. If you’re serious about your coffee chances are you already have a french press, right? I do, I like it very much, but the coffee doesn’t stay warm. What I like about this french press from FP Coffee Makers is that it’s insulated, which is wonderful when you want more than one cup. (p.s Tea lovers this works with tea too.)

12 Days of Kindness Ideas

A few weeks ago my ten year-old stayed home from school because she wasn’t feeling well, the two of us sat and watched HGTV while she guzzled down cups of green tea. I folded clothes and blog planned while I sat with her watching a Love It or List It marathon in the early afternoon. She turned to me and said,  “What if you do 12 Days of Kindness? I think that would be a great idea not only for us, but for your blog friends to spread some holiday cheer, too.” Umm… that’s a genius idea, my little love bug! She then started listing a few good ideas. Some of the ideas she listed were things we have already done in the past and some are ideas we want to do this season, especially #7.  I was going to do this as a daily post, but I decided I better condense this into 1 post, so you can get planning for the next 12 days. 🙂

2. Who doesn’t love cookies? Consider baking a fresh batch of cookies for co-workers or your children’s teachers. Add some tags with ribbons or twine wrapped around cookie boxes.

3. Have your children pick out a toy to donate to a local toy drive.

4. Fill stockings and deliver them to a local women’s shelter. I loved this sweet idea Tamara and her sweet daughter, Scarlet, came up with.

5. Be a candy cane elf! When we moved to South Carolina we had to spend our 1st Christmas there in a small apartment (corporate housing), we made the best of it. We decided to spread some holiday cheer by putting candy canes on all the apartments in our building. The kids LOVED doing this. 🙂

6. Fill those kettles!! Have your kiddos go on a scavenger hunt for loose change and let them fill the kettles to help The Salvation Army.

7. What can I say we’re Redbox  lovers, how about handing out hot cocoa and a Redbox promo code. 🙂

You can usually find codes for Redbox through deal sites or if you sign up for their texts and emails. 9. Fill a bag full of groceries and take them to the food pantry. Wednesday night, after my son’s concert, we went to the grocery store.  When we got there, there was a group of kids freezing outside of the Safeway taking food collections for the local food pantry. We took their list and gave it to our kids, we let the kids pick a few items, they filled a bag. It didn’t cost us much, baby food, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, tuna, stuff like that.  You may also want to donate your time helping at a food drive. Many schools have signups for kids to donate their time. I’m going to be a proud mama right now… my daughter (13) was a food drive helper yesterday, and I couldn’t be more happy that she is sharing her time helping others. 🙂

10. Take care of you.  I know many of us work everyday to make life better for others, but the best way to do that is to take care of ourselves. I am going to admit something that I’m honestly quite ashamed of, but it’s the truth, and I keep it real here: I haven’t had a check up in over a year. I’ve been to the doctor, but I haven’t had a full check-up, and that’s actually unlike me. With the moves and my new doctor leaving, I just dropped the ball. I’m vigilant when it comes to my kid’s health as well as my husband’s health, but I need to do the same for me. Being proactive when it comes to our health can be a lifesaver! This is where I want to introduce you to the lovely and incredibly strong Heather Von St. James. Heather is a survivor! 10 years cancer free. 🙂  Heather wasn’t feeling like herself, her breathing was short, she felt tired, she could’ve chalked it up to being a new mom, but she didn’t. Heather was proactive with her health, instead of waiting things out she went to see her doctor. After numerous tests, she was given a grim diagnosis. She was told, “do nothing, you’ll have 15 months” 15 MONTHS! Her daughter wasn’t even a year old. She decided to do something (she was also told treatment may only give her 5 years), but with advancements, great doctors, hope, and experimental procedures, we have Heather. She was diagnosed with malignant pleural mesothelioma, because she was in contact with asbestos, from her father’s work jacket. I encourage you to read all 7 parts of Heather’s POWERFUL story AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT! That’s on my to do list. Thank you, Heather.

Heather Von St. James| Hope| Survivor|

I hope  you will spread some holiday cheer!

Happy Holidays!! XOXO
